OMNI search,  what is it?

Google Search is the best example of OMNI search.

You can search everything, such as image, video, web page, pdf, word doc, shopping, news, map, forums, books, flights, etc.

Just in ONE input field, by 1 click search button.

One input, One button, to search everything is OMNI search.

Old version project map use web appbuilder,

https://odp.dot.ca.gov/sb1/

Old version don't have omni search

When you search something, it does not search against Caltrans database, does not search any project layers. It only search against ESRI's geocoding service to list address only.

New version project map use experience builder

https://rebuildingca-project.dot.ca.gov/CaltransProjectMap/

New version have omni search, when you type a keyword, it search against Caltrans database, search against all-in-one project layers

This is hint, suggestion if you type a keyword

When you actually click search button, you will see this result

Following are knowing issue, have not solved yet.....

If something doesn't work, blame ESRI, you never went wrong

1)  OMNI search, search a project ID '0118000107'

2)  When you actually click search button. The search result isn't what you expected. This is because of experience builder's bottleneck problem. Maybe experience builder does not fit to do this job, or at least at this moment. See below result, it make no sense at all. find 835 results?  Wrong result returned.

3) the correct result for project id '0118000107' should be a line right here. You can test another project ID by copy a project ID from this map, then search it on new version.

https://transparentgov.net/json2tree/datahub.io/embed/multilayerMultiSelect.html?layer_id=1&layer=Project_Line&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcaltrans-gis.dot.ca.gov%2Farcgis%2Frest%2Fservices%2FSB1%2FBuildingCA_Projects%2FMapServer&_center_zoom=14&_center_lat=41.26371611468753&_center_long=-123.80643386335696&selectedItemIdArray=1&clickorhover=click

4) after you search something, then you clear the search bar, it will crash frequently.

This is knowing issue, we can not fix it, because it is originated from experience builder core component, ESRI should fix it, but they did not.  Hopefully in future, next version release ESRI can solve this issue.

May be experience builder isn't mature enough for this job, at least at this moment.

5) OMNI search, search a funding type 'sb1'

6) When you click search result, it crash again,

Again this is experience builder's bottleneck issue, we can not fix it, only ESRI can fix it, but they didn't

7) Alternatively you can get correct result from old version

https://odp.dot.ca.gov/sb1/#

8) OMNI search, search a funding type 'federal'

failed result, make nonesense. Again this is experience builder's bottleneck issue, we can not fix it, only ESRI can fix it, but they didn't

9) Alternatively you can get correct result from old version

https://odp.dot.ca.gov/sb1/#

10) Summary:

OMNI search does not successfully implement on experience builder.

Either experience builder isn't fit for this job.

Or attribute table, schema, need change to facilitate OMNI search job.

If something doesn't work, blame ESRI, you never went wrong
